To develop within the student an understanding of the scientific research method, practical research skills, and practical design and development skills in a research environment.

Content

Students will undertake a substantial project, usually as part of a team of students or based within a research group in the university or external industrial research establishment. A variety of projects will be made available to the student. In exceptional cases, students may negotiate to pursue a project of their own with the agreement of the unit convener. While projects will be of a substantial scientific research nature, they are generally expected to include the need to develop hardware or software systems.
