Aims and objectives
On successful completion of this unit the student should be able to:
- Develop skills in planning and executing a major innovative project.
- Undertake a major research project and complete the task satisfactorily.
- Develop an advanced understanding of the process of research.
- Develop advanced skills in literature review, report writing and oral presentation.

Content
Students will work on an approved project under staff supervision using the research methodologies previously introduced in the Masters program. The project maybe university or industry based and must be approved by the program co-ordinator. Projects will require a literature survey and a theoretical or experimental investigation to test a hypothesis and provide definitive recommendations and conclusions. There is a requirement for monthly progress reports during the semester. Total student time spent on the project is expected to be a minimum of 500 hours.
