Aims and objectives

At the conclusion of this unit students will be able to:
  • Show an appreciation of Italian social and cultural issues and contribute positively to a discussion on the topics dealt with in class
  • Analyse long and complex verbal structures in Italian
  • Comprehend, communicate and apply grammatical rules in advance written and oral form
  • Think cross-culturally and in a multidisciplinary fashion
  • Demonstrate advanced linguistic skills in four distinct areas: listening, speaking, reading and writing
  • Independently further Italian linguistic competence in the areas of pronunciation, morphology and syntax, vocabulary and idiom (advanced level)

Teaching methods

Grammar classes (2 hours), Applied Language Classes (2 hours), Conversation Classes (1 hour); Language of delivery: Italian with English explanations as necessary

Assessment

Assignment (individual) (25%), Test (30%), Examination (40%), Class Contribution (5%)

  • Comparatives, superlatives (regular and irregular)
  • Active and passive forms
  • Impersonal construction, gerund, sta+gerund
  • Clothing, music and musical instruments, environment
  • Short stories, films, newspaper articles
