Aims and objectives

As the title of the unit suggests, “HBY310N Integrative Business Practice” is the first of the two mandatory capstone units of your undergraduate program. In this unit, we will not cover any new material. Instead, important issues discussed earlier in your program will be revisited in cross-disciplinary contexts. We will, however, give you reading materials relevant to specific problems you will work on in class. These will form the basis for in-class tests that will demonstrate your preparation and understanding. By revisiting the unit material you have studied throughout your degree through scenarios and exercises, encouraging self-reflection, and providing feedback, the unit will hone your skills and give you the confidence to apply your learning holistically to business problems. Thus
the unit will prepare you to execute a client-based project in “HBY311N Industry Consulting Project”. Taken together, the capstone units, HBY310N and HBY311N, will afford you an opportunity to work in multidisciplinary teams, integrate your knowledge, and offer sustainable and creative solutions to business clients. The two units will help you make a transition to the workplace in a global economy where the boundaries between social, for-profit, and non-profit organisations are increasingly blurring.

Upon completion of this unit students should be able to:

  • Communicate both verbally and in writing in an appropriate business manner
  • Research and evaluate in local and global business contexts
  • Demonstrate analytical, critical, ethical and creative thinking and problem solving in diverse business contexts
  • Reflective engagement with content material, disciplinary knowledge and personal experiences
  • Work collaboratively in diverse teams
  • Self-evaluate through interaction with others and evaluate the performance of group members

Teaching methods

This unit is group-based, and activities and resources are designed to support skill development and practical application.
