Aims and objectives

The objective of industry placement is for students to integrate theoretical knowledge with the practical applications and experiences in a industry environment. It also aims to assist the student by providing opportunities for personal growth and developing both technical and interpersonal skills.

Specific objectives of the IBL program are to give students the ability to:
  • Gain professional and technical skills
  • Understand real issues and constraints in practicing as a professional
  • Understand professional work ethics and practices
  • Work independently with confidence and as a team member, able to see perspectives and needs of others
  • Communicate and interact professionally
  • Reflect and analyse personal performance
  • Establish professional networks and make informed career choices

Teaching methods

Supervision by a team including the employer and an academic staff member

Assessment

Industry Based Learning (IBL) is assessed on a pass/fail basis, having regard for the timely submission of set tasks, including a written report.
