Aims and objectives
In this unit of study, students will:
- Demonstrate a knowledge of advanced editing techniques and application to real world learning.
- Enhance knowledge of advanced editing software in editing picture, sound and graphic applications.
- Demonstrate an understanding of translating a script to screen, and the use of editing conventions such as scene structure, rhythm and pacing.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the role of the editor in working with a director, and importance of consultation in stages of the post-production process.
- Demonstrate project management skills in completing the edit, sound postproduction, and output to tape/DVD/HD of Major Projects for assessment, screening, publication and distribution purposes.
- Demonstrate competencies in liasing with post-production facilities and film labs.
- Document post-production workflow including schedules, budgets and delivery items.
Teaching methods
Delivery of the unit may include: Lectures; Demonstration of editing software, editing techniques and postproduction workflow; Consultation and class critiques on editing of student Major Project work; Special presentations including guest lecturers from industry; Post-production industry facility visit(s)Assessment

Content
This unit aims to improve students editing skills and their understanding of postproduction outcomes as applied to their major film and television projects. Topics discussed include:
- Advancing editing skills and use of editing applications.
- Demonstration of advanced editing software.
- Postproduction of major projects including editing pictures and sound design.
- Liasing with post-production facilities and film labs in post-producing their major projects.
