Swinburne has been rated one of the world's top 400 research-intensive universities by the Academic Ranking of World Universities – that's the top three in Melbourne.

Our focused research is on show and real, with world-leading astronomers making discoveries across the universe, great advances in solar, advanced manufacturing, and sustainable technologies among the research that is changing our world, improving lives and creating jobs and wealth.

We also rate highly for students in the Good Universities Guide, with four- and five-star ratings in the educational experience category, including for teaching quality and generic (employability) skills. Our academic staff are highly qualified, approachable and helpful.

The Good Universities Guide

Swinburne has been recognised for the quality of its educational experience. It has been awarded high ratings for generic skills, teaching quality, graduate satisfaction, staff qualifications and getting a job in the Good Universities Guide 2013.

The Good Universities Guide is Australia's only comprehensive degree and university ratings guide, releasing an annual publication rating universities in a number of important categories.

International rankings

Swinburne University of Technology has been named amongst the top research-intensive universities in the world according to a number of prestigious world academic ranking lists.

In 2012, Swinburne was promoted into the world's top 400 universities in the prestigious Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), having been in the top 500 since 2009.

Swinburne is now ranked equal tenth among Australian universities and third within Victoria.

Swinburne has also maintained its top 100 ranking in the ARWU for Physics. This ranking makes Swinburne the only Australian university outside the Group of Eight to achieve a top 100 rating in a science discipline.

Swinburne has also been named in the top 500 by the QS World University Rankings 2012.
