Industry-Based Learning (IBL)
Our aim is to provide a comprehensive practical and theoretical understanding of your chosen field of study.
Our close ties with industry are about providing you with opportunities for invaluable business and workplace experiences during your studies.
Industry representatives inform, shape and challenge our curriculum, but more importantly, industry provides guest speakers, final-year cross-discipline team projects matched to actual business needs, or six-month or year-long paid work placement in our Industry-Based Learning program.
All these experiences aim to provide you with a greater chance of employment – even before you graduate.
Swinburne's Industry-Based Learning (IBL) program gives you real-world experience during your undergraduate degree.
It's a six or 12-month paid work placement in the industry you're interested in pursuing as a career path – and an opportunity to gain real-life experience in the workplace.
Benefits
IBL gives you a distinct advantage over other graduates.
Combining tertiary qualifications with practical experience can better prepare you for the opportunities and challenges of professional life.
You'll also develop practical skills and an understanding of how your chosen industry works.
IBL can also be a gateway to future employment - many participants return to work full-time for their IBL employer.
Are you an international student?
Due to government regulation, the optional year of Industry-based Learning is not available to international students holding student visas.
