Description

This degree includes a core generalist training in psychology, and builds on this by adding an interest stream in sport science.  The degree will develop an understanding of developmental psychology, personality, cognition and neuroscience, social psychology and psychological assessment.  Four additional units will develop knowledge about the application of these basic areas of psychology to the sporting domain. You will complete a variety of research projects, specialist units on research design, and project units related to sport science.

Career opportunities

Psychology graduates are highly sought after in a range of human services positions. These might include employment in community and mental health, human resource management, policy development, research, welfare, journalism, marketing and advertising. These courses also provide the first step to becoming a professional psychologist. After completing a degree with a major in psychology, you may undertake a fourth year in psychology and then further study in specialist areas of professional psychology such as counselling, health, clinical, organisational, and sport psychology

Structure

The  Psychology and Sport Science Professional Major comprises 16 units valued at 12.5 credit points each (200 credit points).
A co-major or minor in Psychology and Sport Science is not available.

** NB: In place of HAY305 Psychology Project B, students may undertake any one (1) Arts, Social Science or Science unit.
This Psychology and Sport Science Professional Major is only available to students enrolled in an Arts or Social Science program
Students who successfully complete the requirements of the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Social Science program, including the Psychology and Sport Science Major, are eligible to apply to graduate with the associated tagged outcome.
