Industrial Design Co-Major - 2010 on

Co-Major at Prahran

Description

The co-major in industrial design gives students a sound knowledge of a range of products and associated infrastructures. It provides an overview of the creative and technological requirements for professional practice, incorporating key areas pertinent to the design of product including ergonomics, consumer knowledge and ethics.
Basic skills in professional practice are delivered through sketching and visualisation techniques in addition to computer software training (Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and Solidworks).
For design students, prior learning allows the industrial design co-major to extend to further areas influencing industrial design practice such materials, manufacturing processes and sustainability. Additional computer software training (3D Studio Max and further Solidworks) is also offered.

All Swinburne students, except Bachelor of Design (Industrial Design) students, can enrol in this Co-Major, timetable permitting.
A different sequence of units applies to Bachelor of Design students and all other students; these units are detailed below.

Structure

A Co-Major is a set of eight (8) units that aim to equip students with a thorough understanding of the subject matter.
A unit can only be counted once as part of a Major, Co-Major or Minor. Where there is an overlap of unit a substitute unit will be undertaken - this may be from an additional Minor, free elective, study tour or student exchange.
