Kath Watson Scholarship for Women

The Kath Watson Foundation was established in December 2010 to provide funds to encourage increased participation of female students from disadvantaged backgrounds pursuing tertiary education at Swinburne University of Technology.

The Kath Watson Scholarship for Women at Swinburne University of Technology will be offered for the first time in 2012:

  • to support female students from disadvantaged background to undertake and/or continue tertiary education at Swinburne University of Technology; and
  • to enable female students to achieve their full academic potential, by reducing the need to work outside of study in order to finance their study costs.

Courses Eligible

• Full time TAFE programs, at Certificate IV level and above
• Full time Higher Education programs (undergraduate and postgraduate)

Eligibility / Selection Criteria

To be eligible an applicant must:

  • Be a female applicant commencing or undertaking a full time study program at Swinburne University of Technology, at Certificate IV level and above
  • Demonstrate financial need and educational disadvantage.
    Disadvantage may include:
    - Financial difficulty or low income
    - Disability or medical condition
    - Delay or interruption to career or studies because of family responsibilities or illness
    - Relocation from a rural or regional area in order to undertake tertiary study
    - English as a second language
    - Identification as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
  • Be an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident or holder of a permanent humanitarian visa

Value

The Scholarship is valued at $2,000 per year, for the duration of the study program up to a maximum period of five years.
