TAFE to University

As an intersectoral university, offering both TAFE and higher education courses, Swinburne makes it easier than ever before to move between TAFE and university courses.

The pathways program ensures that students gain the maximum benefit from their previous studies. Whether students come from Swinburne TAFE or another institute, credit transfer pathways are in place to help students enter the right course at the appropriate level.

International students should visit the International website for more information on TAFE to university pathways.

Minimum Requirements

Generally students must obtain a minimum of a credit average in their final year of TAFE study and pass all units of study. In some instances you may be required to obtain a distinction average in final year. Note that the number of places available to graduating TAFE students will vary from year to year.

Exemptions Based on Completed TAFE Qualifications

Students with an approved completed diploma or advanced diploma in the appropriate field of study or equivalent will be required to take a minimum of core subjects (which may include matched subject credits). These may vary between courses.

Where possible, exemptions granted will be matched against specific subjects, to ensure that prior studies are not duplicated.

Achieving the minimum entry requirement to a degree course does not guarantee selection.

Pathways Direct

There are additional benefits for being a Swinburne TAFE student. If you are interested in Pathways from TAFE to an undergraduate degree, Pathways Direct will help you move to the next step with ease.

A conditional offer will be made based on your results from the first three semesters of the program (approximately 1 ½ years of study) in which you are currently enrolled. The offer will depend on your successful completion of the final semester.
