Future Students - Information For

Year 12 Students

Choosing your study path has traditionally been a decision that, once made, you can’t change.

Although it is still very important to understand that each step you take after high school will affect your career outcome, Swinburne offers you the flexibility to move from TAFE to university, university to TAFE or across program areas so that you can get all the experience you want from your education.

Does Swinburne offer the course for me?

Swinburne offers both higher education and TAFE courses across five campuses. You can search through our online course database or read through our study themes to give you a broad overview.

How do I apply?

We have a detailed how to apply section where you can find information on applying for TAFE, university and postgraduate courses, both through VTAC and direct entry.

Am I eligible for any scholarships?

You have the opportunity to apply for a number of scholarships and are eligible to receive multiple scholarships as long as you meet the criteria for each.

There are scholarships for both TAFE and university students – make sure you check the application closing dates so you don’t miss out!

Fees – how does it work?

There are two types of university places available to students: Full Fee Paying (FFP) or Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP).

Full Fee Paying students must pay their fees upfront, however Fee-Help (a loan from the government) is available.

Commonwealth Supported Places allow students to defer payment of tuition fees until they secure work in a job that earns over a certain threshold.

You can find more information in the fees section of this website.

Can I go to TAFE first and then gain a pathway to a university course?

Swinburne has one of the highest rates of TAFE graduates going into degree programs. The reason why TAFE graduates are sought after for university courses is because they have demonstrated their abilities through their TAFE studies and are committed to enhancing their learning at the degree level. You can search through options in the pathways section of this website.

What practical experiences are available to me at Swinburne?

The most popular of these programs is the well-known Industry-Based Learning (IBL) program. Swinburne is committed to building the range of programs for students and to develop more opportunities to ensure that Swinburne students are workforce-ready!
