Apply

Once you've done your research and narrowed your list of courses to a few favourites, it's time to look at the application process and to consider any scholarships.

VTAC

The Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) administers the application and offer process for universities and TAFE institutions in Victoria for Semester 1 commencements only.

When you apply through VTAC, you can list between one and 12 courses in order of your preference, giving you the chance to list more than one course you're considering.

The application process is hosted online through the VTAC website, which requires you to create a profile and login to complete your application.

Dates and deadlines

It's important to remember that VTAC's application and offer process works around important deadlines.

Most Year 12 students submit their application and preferences by the end of September, known as the Timely application period.

When you receive your ATAR and VCE results, the VTAC preference system re-opens and allows you to add new courses or re-order your preference list (or leave it as is) – this is known as the Change of Preference period.

VCE results and ATAR will be released online on Monday 17 December 2012 at 7am.

You will have until 12 noon on Monday 24 December 2012 to change your course preferences if required.

Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS)

The Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) is offered through VTAC for those who have been unable to reach their full educational potential or who may have restricted access to the course of their choice because of their life circumstances.

SEAS allows VTAC selection officers to grant extra consideration to applicants for course entry, but it is not used as a replacement for course entry requirements.

Swinburne participates in SEAS categories 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.

SEAS applications must be submitted by Tuesday 9 October 2012.

Change of Preference

Change of Preference is the final step in the application process.

It's your chance to review your preference list, make any adjustments and submit your final choice of course preferences.

Once you have received your VCE results and ATAR on Monday 17 December, you will have until 12 noon on Monday 24 December 2012 to change your course preferences.

During this week, we run a number of events to help you with your decision.

Applying

Scholarship application deadlines vary. Start looking at the beginning of the year and take note of closing dates.

The application process for each scholarship can also vary. For example, you may apply directly to Swinburne in one instance or through VTAC for another.

Some scholarship applications will ask you for personal statements or an essay. Make sure you allow enough time to plan and write these before the deadline.

Scholarships with VTAC applications

Swinburne's Vice-Chancellor's Scholarships and Dean's Scholarships require you to apply through VTAC by adding the scholarship to your preference list.

There's also an additional application form you must complete and submit by the deadline.
