Year 11 Students:
Does Swinburne offer the right course for me?
You can search through our online course database to find Swinburne courses at all levels and across all campuses.
Before selecting the course you want to do you must make sure that you are eligible for entry. The main things you need to take into consideration are:
Prerequisites
Prerequisites are subjects that must be completed to be considered for entry into a particular tertiary course. Courses have prerequisite subjects because some study areas need a specific level of knowledge or ability before you start. This way everyone starts at the same level.
You can find the entry requirements/prerequisite subjects for the course you are interested in on CourseFinder, Swinburne's online course database.
Extra requirements
Extra requirements are things that you will have to do on top of your application for a course. This may include attending an interview or compulsory workshop, or simply submitting extra forms.
All extra requirement details are listed in the VTAC guide and on Swinburne’s CourseFinder. Please note that deadlines for extra requirements are set by each institution and must be adhered to.
Your ENTER
ENTER stands for Equivalent National Tertiary Entrance Rank. Your ENTER is the rank you receive when you complete Year 12. It compares students nationally for each particular year.
Your ENTER determines if you are eligible and will be considered for a course. ENTERs do not vary much year to year, however it is important that you refer to the most current version of the VTAC guide when looking at the ENTER you need to have to gain entry into a course.
Keep in mind not all courses look at ENTER for entry. There are a lot of TAFE courses that have different entry requirements. These can be found on Swinburne's online course database.
Bonus points
Additional points may be awarded as a part of the selection process. Some courses apply additional 'aggregate points' for particular subjects. For example, if you apply for Swinburne's Bachelor of Business and you have completed Accounting, Business Management, Economics, Information Technology (any), Legal Studies and Mathematics (any), you can increase your ENTER score by an aggregate up to 1 point higher per study (up to maximum of 5 points).
For more information on the ENTER, scaling, bonus points or extension studies, speak to your career adviser or see the VTAC Guide.
