Year 10 Students:
Do I have to do Year 12?
In Year 10 you have a range of options and qualifications to choose from other than Year 11 and 12. Some of these options are:
- The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL)
- International Baccalaureate (IB)
- Vocational Education and Training (VET) in the VCE
- Pre-apprenticeships, apprenticeships and traineeships
- Pathways from TAFE to Higher Education
The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL)
VCAL has been designed as an alternative to a standard VCE which is focused on hands-on learning and vocational training. It is made up of literacy and numeracy skills, industry specific skills, work-related skills and personal development skills
International Baccalaureate (IB)
International Baccalaureate (IB) is a comprehensive two-year international curriculum designed for university entrance that is internationally recognised. You study IB subjects instead of VCE subjects. For more information speak to your career adviser or visit www.ibo.org
Vocational Education and Training (VET) in the VCE
Vocational Education and Training (VET) in the VCE is a government initiative offering you a chance to complete VCE while undertaking vocational studies at TAFE or at school.
Swinburne offers hospitality, multimedia and automotive engineering VET programs.
If you complete a VET in the VCE program alongside regular VCE you can transfer into further study like certificate or diploma studies. Many VET courses can now be assessed as part of an ENTER score. For more information speak to your career adviser.
Pre-apprenticeships, apprenticeships and traineeships
Pre-apprenticeships, apprenticeships and traineeships provide off-the-job training with a practical on-the-job experience whilst creating a career path in a wide variety of industries. They are available to people 15 years and older.
These certificate courses are an opportunity to enter the workforce while still receiving formal training. Swinburne offers many courses including automotive, production horticulture and small business.
