Parents and Guardians:
What is VTAC?
Below are some important definitions that you will find useful when discussing tertiary options, applications and enrolment with your child.
VTAC
The Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) works as an application and administrative agency for all Victorian Universities and TAFE institutes. Applications to VTAC must be submitted electronically via the VTAC website.Applications through VTAC commence in July each year. Timely applications close during the last week of September and although late applications will be accepted by VTAC until mid-December, some courses have special requirements and will not accept late applications. Please check the VTAC Guide for details or view Swinburne's VTAC Entry web page.
- VTAC Guide
This guide lists all the courses that require a VTAC application and also provides information on application procedures. The VTAC Guide is available in mid-July and can be purchased from newsagencies or accessed online from the VTAC home page at www.vtac.edu.au.
Not all courses are listed in the VTAC guide and therefore it is important to use institute publications and websites in your research. To view all Swinburne courses visit Coursefinder, our online course database.
- VTAC Infonet
VTAC Infonet allows students to lodge their first application, ‘Change of Preference’ and accept, reject or defer offers online at www.vtac.edu.au.
- VTAC Infoline
VTAC Infoline allows students to lodge their first application, ‘Change of Preference’ and accept, reject or defer offers over the telephone. Call 1902 241 114.
- VTAC application
A VTAC application is a list of up to 12 VTAC courses that a student has selected, placed in order of study preference. Applicants must apply by VTAC Infonet or VTAC Infoline. Fees and charges do apply.
What do they mean by prerequisites and extra requirements?
Prerequisites: subjects that an applicant must successfully complete in order to apply for a course.
Extra requirements: applicable to some courses in addition to submitting a standard VTAC application. An extra requirement may be an interview, presentation of a folio or providing additional information such as letters of recommendation.
