With so many options for flexible learning, you can maintain a balanced life while studying at Swinburne. If fitting in study with work or family is a problem, take a look at Swinburne’s many learning options to find the right fit for you.

2. Reputation

Studying at Swinburne will engage your mind, change your life and career prospects. In fact Swinburne has been named the best university in Melbourne for teaching quality and graduate satisfaction by The Good Universities Guide.

3. Location, location

With five great locations, it’s easy to see why so many non-school leavers choose Swinburne. Each of Swinburne’s campuses are well-serviced by public transport, with many being on or near train lines, as well as being serviced by buses (in the outer east) and trams (in the inner suburban campuses).

Furthermore, each campus is located close to a range of retail stores, cafes, bars and restaurants including Chapel Street in Prahran, Glenferrie Road in Hawthorn and Knox City located near our Wantirna Campus. Our spectacular Lilydale campus, located at the gateway to the Yarra Valley, offers students a scenic yet vibrant study environment.

4. Industry links

Being a student at Swinburne is not just about coming away with a piece of paper and a list of results. It’s about you getting real-life experience through practical courses. In both Swinburne TAFE and university courses, a real-life approach to learning, combined with project-focused work is the key to producing work-ready and industry-aware graduates.

Swinburne has built an exceptional reputation for having close industry ties. Our Industry-Based Learning (IBL) program is one of the largest of its kind in Australia, offering paid employment to over 400 students annually from over 50 courses in more than 220 companies.

5. Pathways

As an intersectoral university, offering both TAFE and Higher Education courses, we are able to provide you with an internal credit transfer system known as Pathways Direct. If students are interested in continuing their formal education, Pathways Direct ensures that students gain the maximum benefit from their previous studies.

Swinburne Higher Education also offers places in a variety of degree programs to current Swinburne TAFE students, without having to apply through VTAC. Entry into degree programs through Pathways Direct allows students to complete a bachelor degree in a shorter amount of time, provided credit transfer requirements are met.
