Learning experience

Final-year Capstone Projects

Final-year undergraduate students at Swinburne will undertake a professionally-focused Capstone project that allows them to study 'real-world' problems and propose 'real-world' solutions.

They get to put theory into practice with the support and mentoring of academics and industry partners.

The Capstone project is a compulsory element of Swinburne undergraduate degrees. Students may also choose to complement their studies with 6 or 12 months of optional (but very popular) Industry-Based Learning, another opportunity to gain practical industry experience.

Careers in the Curriculum

Our Careers in the Curriculum program is a mandatory unit for every undergraduate student, incorporating seminars on career planning and development skills, resume and cover-letter writing, as well as self-analysis techniques.

It all helps when it comes time to get a job.

In addition, our TAFE graduates leave with a 'Skills Passport' that identifies their strengths in a range of skills nominated by employers as critical in the modern workplace.

Industry-Based Learning

Over 40 years ago, Swinburne was the first institution in Australia to offer Industry-Based Learning placements and since then, the program has become a cornerstone of the Swinburne education experience.

The optional work placement (of 6 or 12 months) enables students to obtain experience in a genuine industry context. And they get paid for doing it.

Please note that Industry-Based Learning is not available to international students.
