Student Ambassadors

Student AmbassadorsMeet our Student Ambassadors.

They're able to provide an inside story about their course and experience at Swinburne.

They all have a different story. Some have spent a semester on exchange or completed an Industry-Based Learning (IBL) placement.

Others have experienced studying at TAFE and university, making the transition through our Pathways program.

Chris QuirkChris Quirk

Bachelor of Social Science (Politics and Public Policy)

"I chose Swinburne over other Melbourne universities because of the strength of their teaching staff.

Being a smaller university, Swinburne is a great place for anyone who wants smaller classes, personalised attention and approachable teaching staff.

My advice for future students is to look outside the box. Don't just concentrate on the most popular universities and which one is higher in the rankings. Swinburne has provided me with many fantastic opportunities. I've been able to work with some of the best academics in their fields, and travel overseas on exchange.

The opportunity to take a semester abroad at one of Swinburne’s partner institutions allowed me to see the world and experience a different university culture. I honestly believe that had I not chosen Swinburne, I would have not been provided the same opportunity."

Christian TagleChristian Tagle

Bachelor of Aviation / Bachelor of Commerce

"My course has provided me with excellent guidance and expertise - I've now got a hands-on feel for the aviation industry.

Swinburne was the only university to offer my ideal course - that being a double degree in aviation (piloting) and in business.

Swinburne’s Hawthorn campus is convenient and ideal for me - and very easy to get to by train. I like the fact I can go up Glenferrie Road and find practically anything!

My advice to students considering Swinburne would be to take a good look at where you want to be in ten years. Keep your options open, my course wasn't actually my first preferences because I didn’t believe I’d get the right score - but I’m here today!

I also recommending coming to Swinburne Open Day and making the most of Tertiary Information Sessions to grab all the information you need."

Jasmyne LindreaJasmyne Lindrea

Bachelor of Science (Psychology/Psychophysiology)

"My course provides me with both theory and hands-on material, covering a variety of current and relevant topics.

The lecturers are well recognised in their field and have provided me with an in-depth understanding across all my subjects.

Attending Swinburne Open Day definitely helped my decision of where to study. I was fortunate enough to speak with the course coordinator whose passion and knowledge inspired me.

Open Day gave me a feeling of belonging where I could picture myself studying in the future.

Another factor for why I chose Swinburne was its easy access to public transport. I travel more than an hour to uni and really appreciate Glenferrie Station sitting right in the middle of the Hawthorn campus!"

Lochlin DeeganLochlin Deegan

Bachelor of Commerce (International Business) / Bachelor of Arts (Japanese)

"I chose Swinburne because it combines my area of interest (Japanese) with a business degree.

That just made sense to me. In today’s globalised world, knowledge of business combined with a second language is a striking combination that will help me to get further in my career.

I really like the work-ready approach Swinburne employs. It differentiates Swinburne graduates from those of other universities as we hold theoretical and practical skills.

I attended Open Day and it was fantastic! It was definitely a key factor in my decision to study at Swinburne.

My advice to other students would be to come Open Day and feel the atmosphere for yourself.

You really need to talk to staff and students about what it's like, because reading about places is good, but experiencing them is far better."

Josh CollinsJosh Collins

Advanced Diploma of International Business

"One of the main reasons I chose to study at Swinburne was the opportunity to be socially involved with others in the area of business and entrepreneurship.

I had already completed an apprenticeship at Swinburne, so I was familiar with the structures and systems in place, not to mention campuses and people.

I’m currently studying the Advanced Diploma of International Business and am looking to continue on into a commerce degree when I’m finished."

Majella McDougallMajella McDougall

Bachelor of Commerce (International Business) / Bachelor of Arts (Japanese)

"I chose Swinburne because it had the perfect mix of business and Japanese that I was interested in.

The location in Hawthorn is fantastic and very easy to get to and from the city – which is especially important to be able to access my hometown, Ballarat.

I attended Open Day and it helped me understand what university life could be like - so I highly recommend coming along.

My advice to future students is to remember and understand that uni life will be different from high school life.

Swinburne teachers are fantastic and always available to help, especially during your first year, which can be daunting for some!"

Tyson Bartley-Rayner

Bachelor of Engineering (Civil Engineering)

"I transferred to Swinburne from another university because it was closer to home. I live in the eastern suburbs and it has cut my travel time in half!

Swinburne is very modern and has great facilities. I'm really enjoying my time here - my course is challenging and relates to real world problems.

My advice to others is to consider all your options.

Remember to go to all your classes and make the most of your time at university, it's already going too fast!"
