Overview

The Graduate Certificate of Information Technology Business Analysis has been designed to provide a fundamental overview of some of the key knowledge and skills required of business analysts, in particular data and information modeling, requirements elicitation, and business process modeling. Students will also gain insights into how to manage the critical soft human elements involved in most business problem contexts.

Course description

The Graduate Certificate of Information Technology Business Analysis is part of a nested suite of programs that includes the Graduate Diploma of Information Technology Business Analysis and the Master of Information Technology Business Analysis.
(Students holding an international student visa are required to study full-time and on campus.)

Course structure

The Graduate Certificate of Information Technology Business Analysis consists of four core units of study (50 credit points) to be completed over six months full-time or equivalent part-time*, dependant on the enrolled load of the student.
Students can enrol in the Graduate Certificate (50 credit points) and upon successful completion, progress to the Master of Information Technology Business Analysis.
Students should refer to the general timetable for unit availability. Please note, not all units will be available in the evening in every semester.
*Students holding an international student visa are required to study full-time and on campus.

Learning outcomes
A graduate of the Graduate Certificate of Information Technology Business Analysis program is expected to be able to:
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the fundamental aspects of business analysis including data analysis, requirements analysis, elicitation, and documentation, and business process analysis
  • Employ appropriate approaches and methods to analyse key problem areas, undertake requirements determination and process modeling
  • Identify a range of potential solutions to problem areas and work with key stakeholders to improve both technical and non-technical aspects of the problem context
  • Apply knowledge and skills to solve complex business problems
  • Communicate effectively with key stakeholders in both business and ICT areas

Graduate attributes

The Graduate Certificate of Information Technology Business Analysis will build on graduates' existing attributes in the following areas:

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

Completion of an approved undergraduate degree from a recognised tertiary institution equivalent to a three year Australian bachelor degree or at least five years of relevant work experience.
 
On successful completion of the Graduate Certificate in Information Technology Business Analysis, students may apply to progress to the Master of Information Technology Business Analysis and will be able to gain full credit for the units completed towards the Graduate Certificate in Information Technology Business Analysis, including those studied as required pre-requisite units.

Credit transfer

There are no exemptions available in the Graduate Certificate program. Students who already have skills in particular units will study alternative units.
