Overview

This is a practical, hands-on course which develops entrepreneurial and innovative approaches to managing people, managing finances, managing projects and continuous improvement and compliance.
Duration6 months full-time; 1-2 years part-time and online; 1-2 years traineeship; 6 months fast-track part-time (Melbourne CBD campus). Please note that the Term 6 starting date for this course is 14 October 2013.

Course description

The Diploma of Management provides students with comprehensive knowledge and skills in management processes. Students may already have technical qualifications but need additional management skills to advance their careers. As graduates, career paths may include supervisory and middle management roles in large and small organisations.
(Students holding an international student visa are required to study full-time and on campus and cannot take the other study modes.)

Course structure

Full-time and part-time modes
Full-time - 6 months (Hawthorn)
Part-time day - 12 months (Hawthorn)
Online mode
The online mode is suitable for self-directed learners seeking or building a career in management. The Diploma of Management can be completed in 12 months via the online program.
Fast-track mode (advanced option)
The fast-track program consists of one full-day workshop every three weeks for six months. Workshops are interactive, highly engaging and are delivered by experienced industry facilitators. Learning must be applied in the workplace via projects, activities and tasks. The fast-track option is only available to people who have an opportunity to apply their learning directly to their current role and who possess a minimum of three years’ experience in the workforce.

Traineeships (workplace training)
Traineeships are workplace-based learning. Traineeships in the Diploma of Human Resource Management are available for people whose workplace will support their learning at work.
Customised programs
The Diploma of Management can be customised to enterprise requirements for those working within organisations who wish to further develop management skills and knowledge. Typically, the program begins with a training needs analysis and skills assessment followed by customisation of training and assessment to ensure the program meets the strategic goals of the organisation. Learning interventions may include project-based learning, coaching, mentoring, workshops, self-paced and online learning materials. These programs are designed to provide return on training investment.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course however preferred pathways into the course include the following:
 
Full-time and part-time modes
Successful completion Certificate IV in Frontline Management (or other relevant qualification)
 
Alternatively, mature applicants who hold the following academic or vocational experience may satisfy the entry requirements:
  • Certificate IV in Frontline Management (or other relevant qualification/s) or have completed the majority of units required for Certificate IV in Frontline Management (or other relevant qualification/s); or
  • Vocational experience in management, but without formal qualifications
Online mode
Applicants need to be mature aged and working, preferably in a management role, where they can apply management learning at work. Study involves projects, activities and tasks to be completed in the workplace.  For further information please contact 1300 275 794.

Pathways

Preferred pathways for candidates considering this qualification include:
  • After achieving the Certificate IV in Frontline Management or other relevant qualification/s, or
  • Providing evidence of competency in the majority of units required for the Certificate IV in Frontline Management or other relevant qualification/s, or
  • With vocational experience but without formal supervision or management qualification

Credit transfer

Applicants with prior tertiary studies that satisfy part of the academic requirements of a course may be granted 'credit' and/or entry to the course with 'advanced standing'. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process where a student may be granted credit or partial credit towards a qualification in recognition of skills and knowledge gained through work experience, life experience and/or formal training.
