The Associate Degree of Applied Graphic Design enables individuals to broaden their knowledge and skills in specialist areas and to develop theoretical graphic design concepts. Students learn how to demonstrate these concepts through their own design work and to contribute to a strategy to achieve design outcomes.
The majority of units will be delivered at the Wantirna campus. Some units may be delivered at the Prahran and Hawthorn campuses.

The Associate Degree of Applied Graphic Design has been developed to equip individuals with a broad range of knowledge in relation to graphic design and the specialised areas surrounding this environment. Individuals will enhance and develop skills in drawing, design areas, management and business.
(Students holding an international student visa are required to study full-time.)
Course structure
The Associate Degree of Applied Graphic Design consists of 16 units of study, totalling 200 credit points.

Upon satisfactory completion, graduates will be eligible for a third year entry into the Bachelor of Design (Communication Design), with the option to move into the Industry Placement / Honours stream. Students who are interested in this Industry Placement option must apply to the Faculty of Design during their second year of the Associate Degree.

Standard entry - Year 12
2012 VCE Prerequisites: Units 3 and 4–a study score of at least 30 in English (ESL) or at least 20 in any other English; and portfolio selection. Candidates will be required to forward a portfolio demonstrating drawing and design skills including originality in graphic design or other artwork. Please see Portfolio Guidelines section following.

Students not holding an appropriate Year 12 or equivalent qualification may submit a direct application. Any previous qualifications and/or work experience may be taken into consideration. Students who have completed an advanced diploma or diploma may be given some credit for their studies. The level of credit granted may depend on the relevance of their qualification to the program in which they are enrolling.

Portfolio guidelines
All applicants for the Associate Degree of Applied Graphic Design must submit a portfolio for review. Applicants can download the Portfolio Guidelines from our Design website.
