Pathways to further study
Following your associate degree, you can progress to achieve a bachelor degree by completing an extra year of study.
Each of our associate degrees has been mapped to a relevant bachelor degree (with guaranteed entry) which will only require one extra year of study, so you exit with more than one qualification.

*Up to two years of extra study will be required if completing a pathway from the Associate Degree of Engineering to the mapped bachelor degree options.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
On-the-job experience, informal training or previous study may count towards Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
Apply for RPL if you have completed any of the following:
- Paid work
- Volunteer work
- Formal study not completed
RPL and credit exemptions can save time and money by recognising your previous study or experience. This may enable you to complete your course in less time and advance to a higher qualification if you wish.
Fees
Associate degrees fall under Higher Education fees and are offered as a Commonwealth supported place (CSP).
A CSP is a higher education place for which the Commonwealth Government makes a contribution towards the cost of your education. If you are enrolled in a CSP, you are only required to contribute part of the cost of your course.
Some Commonwealth-supported students are eligible to defer payment of their student contribution via HECS-HELP, or to receive a discount for paying their student contribution up-front. Some Commonwealth-supported students are not eligible for a discount or to defer payment and must pay their student contribution up-front.
How much do you pay?
The student contribution is calculated based on the units of study that you enrol in.
Each unit is assigned to a 'band' according to the subject area that it comes from.

Facilitated Online Learning for residents in the Hume Region
Swinburne has partnered with Mansfield Adult Continuing Education (MACE) to deliver three of our associate degrees through Facilitated Online Learning to students in the Hume region.
This gives you the option to study online from home, or complete some of your studies at a Learn Local Centre, a network of over 320 adult community education organisations across Victoria.

About Facilitated Online Learning
Facilitated online learning is an interactive approach to studying online.
You will be guided through your studies by a mentor and supported to enhance your knowledge, understanding and critical thinking skills by lecturers and tutors.
Your lecturers, tutors and mentors will provide direction to ensure you're able to participate fully in the online learning experience.
You'll find that you and your fellow students will form an online community to discuss issues, share ideas, collaborate on projects and support one another using online learning tools, such as blogs, wikis, journals, discussion boards, Blackboard iLearn and podcasts.
Delivery options
You can choose to study entirely online through the Facilitation Online Learning program.
Another option is to study your first year at a Learn Local Centre, a network of over 320 adult community education organisations across Victoria.
